Mt. Lehman Fall Fair a 40-year-old tradition bringing Parents and Community together at Mt. Lehman Elementary

April 25, 2025

Mt. Lehman Elementary is the oldest school in continuous operation within the Abbotsford School District. Originally opened in 1884, the school has a rich history and has seen many changes and renovations over the years. Despite these changes, it still incorporates the 1910 schoolhouse as part of its structure.

The school is deeply integrated into the community, collaborating with local organizations such as the Mt. Lehman Community Hall and the local United Church to promote and participate in events like the Mt. Lehman Fall Fair, Remembrance Day, and Canada Day celebrations. Strong community involvement helps foster a sense of belonging and pride among students and their families.

Nested in the picturesque rural community of Mt. Lehman, Abbotsford, the Mt. Lehman Fall Fair is a cherished annual event that brings together families and friends for a day of fun and celebration. Held every September at Mt. Lehman Elementary and the nearby Mt. Lehman Community Hall, this fair has been a staple in the community for nearly four decades.

The Fall Fair features a variety of activities that cater to all ages, including rides, games, a silent auction, craft market, live music and performances all day long, and a car show. It's a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together, enjoy delicious food, and participate in entertaining events. The fair also showcases local talent and crafts, making it a vibrant display of the community's creativity and spirit.

A strong community and an active Parents Advisory Council (PAC) bring numerous benefits to Mt. Lehman Elementary and the broader community. Enhanced educational resources from fundraising efforts by the PAC to help provide additional resources and equipment for the school.  The PAC organizes and supports various community events, including the Mt. Lehman Fall Fair, which fosters a sense of unity and belonging among residents. These events also offer opportunities for families to engage with the school and each other.  Active participation by parents in the PAC ensures that they have a voice in school decisions and initiatives, promoting a collaborative environment where parents, teachers, and administrators work together for the benefit of the students.  Fundraising and community events often support extracurricular activities and programs that enrich students' educational experiences, such as field trips, sports workshops, arts programs, and the Fall Fair. The PAC's efforts help build a network of support within the community, encouraging local businesses and organizations to contribute to the school's success and participate in community events.
